An Icy Valentine's Day in the Midwest

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I had a great day. I awoke to candy and a nice card.

Then I had lunch with one of my daughters, and later went to the show with my husband. We watched a cute little love story, Fool's Gold, with the ever so buff, Mathew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. How cute is she? It was a little like watching her mother, Goldie Hawn, they sound identical. It was a fun movie to watch for the sweetheart holiday.

Today was ice and snow covered and my airedale, Chevy, is enjoying laying in the sun on top of the cold ground. She seemed completely content. Hope your day was a nice one.

Speaking of cold. Please, please keep a close eye on those animals that can't get to fresh food and water every day or don't have shelter. Their lives depend on us.

Remember, a house is not a home until our pets become family.

Feed and Water in the Winter.

This is in no way an upbeat post today. I went outside to feed and water the neighbors cat because they're gone. It was 18 degrees here today. While I was out I found a dead cat,not ours, in the barn. I don't know what happened to it. However, I want to use this time to remind everyone if its freezing temperatures outside animals can't get food and water unless we give it to them.

Water freezes quickly even after you put it out for them. You need to water twice a day and make sure they get to it. Even the birds today went nuts when I fed them. The ground was froze over with ice and snow. Birds couldn't get to the things they eat normally.

Basically, take our responsibility to the wild and domestic animals to heart. Take care of them all.

Be sure to bookmark this site if you haven't already.

"Red" Is In

Look how may Cardinals came to visit us this cold January day.

They were simply beautiful to watch. Flying in and out by the dozens.

Red is beautiful on a dreary winter day.

Take A Seat Kitty

Cats. They can be so funny. My cat, Callie, has found her a seat in the barn away from all the dogs trying to chase her.

Take a seat...

From A Frogs Eye View

I just want to share this little frog with you. He hitched a ride on our truck one day and we took his picture. After zooming in on his picture I realized I could see my reflection in his eye. Check out his cute little toes.

Just for your enjoyment. Thank you.

This and other pictures like it can be enjoyed at Nature's Thumbprint.

Summer Heat

You can't approach the middle of summer without thinking of the animals left to the elements outdoors. With such heat everyone needs to be aware of the dangers to all animals whether they're ours or not.

Do not leave pets in vehicles, even for a minute, too many have died so quickly as the heat in a vehicle climbs to fatal temperatures very fast. If you see a pet left alone in a vehicle pay attention. If the driver does not return very soon call 911.
Many pets and believe it or not, children, have died from heat exposure unnecessarily. It's every ones business to protect those who depend on us for survival.

Make sure dogs, cats, horses, cows, etc. all have fresh water twice daily now. They need cover from the intense sun and can dehydrate rather quickly.

On a lighter note you can download budget home decor of animal and nature prints and fine art photography at Nature's Thumbprint. Look around the site, you'll find greeting cards there and our new line of Animal Themed Greeting Cards. Nature's Thumbprint is a printable photography site designed to download wall art to display in your home or office. Grieving the loss of a pet.

A house is not a home until your pet becomes family.

Grieving for a pet can be just as emotional as the grief we experience of a loved one in our family. We sleep with our animals, they certainly live in our homes, and they are our constant companions. It's only natural that the loss we feel be as real.
